FAQ IPD

The most frequently asked questions and answers about our IPD sensors.

Are SENSOTEC sensors also available as input devices?

Our NET sensors behave like DALI application controllers. There can only ever be one application controller on the DALI bus controlling the light. However, due to popular demand, we now also offer input devices. These sensors have recently been launched on the market and have been developed purely as presence detectors/light sensors in the DALI bus. These sensors cannot be networked via Bluetooth.

How can I combine my DALI LED Driver with a DALI sensor?

In the case of SENSOTEC IPD, the DALI sensor is a sensor without integrated control. This means that the sensor only provides sensor data and does not make any decisions required for lighting control. This task is performed by a DALI application controller, a third component that must also be present in the DALI network. A wide range of devices from various manufacturers are available on the market for this purpose. DALI-2 certification ensures compatibility.

What happens if I operate several input devices next to each other?

This is not a problem. Several IPDs can be operated on the same bus. An application controller is responsible for processing the sensor data. The application controller is often operated as a separate participant on the bus, and its logic can be programmed. The sensor only serves as a data supplier for movement information and brightness values.

How do I attach the SENSOTEC PIR IPD sensor?

The sensor is either locked onto a metal plate with specially designed holes or attached using plastic holders. Please contact us if you require special holders.

Are SENSOTEC NET and SENSOTEC IPD sensors mechanically identical?

Yes; 3D data is available online. On the electrical side, the power supply is the same for both types of sensor via the DALI bus. The SENSOTEC IPDs have significantly lower power consumption than the NET sensors.

Can the range/sensitivity be adjusted?

Yes, this is possible. For compatibility reasons, these settings are made by accessing Memory Bank 2. Details can be found in the data sheet.

A red LED is lit/flashing on the sensor. What does this mean?

There may be a number of reasons for this: status display / command confirmation / software version / device detection. The blink codes are documented in the data sheet.
