Florian Blöchlinger's career and daily work routine

Florian Blöchlinger is Head of business development at STEINEL Solutions. Thank you, Florian, for agreeing to answer a few questions. Let's start the interview by finding out a little about your career and your day-to-day work.

Education

What training did you complete before starting your career?

"Between 2004 and 2007, I successfully completed my apprenticeship as an electronics technician at STEINEL Solutions."

What further training did you do after that?

"After my apprenticeship, I completed further training as a technician in business processes. This training gave me a broad foundation and a deep understanding of operational processes and opened up a wide range of insights into project management and coordination. After several years of professional experience as a CAD project group leader (schematic layout), I decided to pursue a part-time MBA (Master of Business Administration), which provided me with a platform for in-depth knowledge of business organisation and leadership."

Why did you choose this career path?

"In my opinion, you can't always plan your entire career path – a lot of things just happen as you go through life. My career is a good example of this: after several successful years in development, particularly in the area of schematic layout, at a company with its own product development department, I took on a management position in production at STEINEL Solutions. A few years later, I was offered the opportunity to switch to project management. Finally, I was able to combine my experience in technology, manufacturing and project management and use it to acquire new projects. This led to my role in sales at STEINEL, for which I was later given responsibility."

What brought you to STEINEL Solutions?

"After completing my apprenticeship at STEINEL, I initially worked externally for a company that developed and sold embedded systems. After a successful start to my career, I wanted to move closer to Zurich from Rotkreuz. During this phase, STEINEL approached me again, offered me exciting insights and gave me the opportunity to take on more responsibility. I am still grateful for this step and the opportunity I was given."

Everyday working life

What makes working as Head of business development at STEINEL Solutions exciting for you?

"STEINEL Solutions' role as a strategic partner for OEM customers with numerous exciting projects in a wide range of industries makes the work particularly varied and interesting. It thrives in an environment that is closely linked to innovation and new products."

What does your everyday work at STEINEL Solutions look like?

"Things don't always go exactly according to plan – and that's a good thing. Customer concerns, economic changes or new projects rarely come with detailed advance notice, which makes standardised processes difficult. The saying 'the customer is king' also applies here. Essentially, my daily routine consists of implementing customer requirements and enquiries, developing the network and the team, and establishing sustainable sales and projects. In addition to contracts, agreements and customer care, this also includes continuously motivating the team."

Products

How many products that you have worked on are currently on the market?

"I haven't counted them, but there have been quite a few – at every stage of my career, and they have all provided me with valuable experience."

Do you have a "favourite product"?

"There are many highlights – not just 'the one'. The products that were particularly enjoyable were those that were challenging to develop, whether in industrialisation or development, and ultimately offered the customer great added value."

How has your job changed in recent years?

"The last few years have seen a significant shift towards digitalisation in the world of work. Tools such as Microsoft Teams have permanently changed the way we communicate and collaborate. For my role in sales, this means more digital opportunities for customer contact, project coordination and team leadership. And the development continues – solutions such as Copilot open up completely new opportunities to accelerate processes, increase efficiency and automate routine tasks. This creates space for strategic work and real value creation."

Portrait of the employee whose career is being discussed

"Change cannot always be planned – but it can be shaped. For me, that means recognising opportunities, exploiting digital possibilities and working with the team to create real added value for our customers."
